2021/22 and 2022/23 Bristol Bay Red King Crab and Bering Sea Snow Crab Disasters

Vessel Owners:

Vessel owners were responsible for submitting information regarding captains and crew members employed during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Bristol Bay Red King Crab and Bering Sea Snow Crab disaster seasons. Owners were given 90 days to submit applications, including signed affidavits documenting captains and crew. Applications had to be uploaded or postmarked by April 25, 2025.

The Commission is currently reviewing these applications. Due to incomplete or missing information in some submissions, PSMFC will be reaching out to applicants to request amendments in the coming days. If contacted, applicants will have two weeks to respond. Failure to respond within this timeframe will result in disqualification. PSMFC will contact applicants using the email address provided in their application. Please do not contact us to inquire about your application’s status. We will reach out to you if needed. As previously instructed, applicants should have provided a monitored email address.

Once all necessary amendments have been reviewed and finalized, vessel owners will receive an initial payment totaling 75% of their total relief amount. Please check back for updates. The remaining 25% will be disbursed at a later date, anticipated for this fall, concurrent with captain and crew payments. This staggered payment approach ensures that any discrepancies or issues related to captain and crew information (e.g., names, share percentages, participation) can be resolved with full cooperation from vessel owners.

Quota Shareholders:

Commission staff are in the final stages of QA/QC for quota shareholders. Several amendment requests will be solicited before we’re positioned to print checks. Please check back for updates. 

Captains and Crew Members:
Applications for captains and crew members are expected to be available early-mid June 2025. As this is a busy time for many fisheries, it is important to ensure your vessel owner has your most current mailing address. You should also check your address regularly or have a trusted person maintain your mail in your absence. Captains and crew members will have a 90-day application period starting in late June or early July 2025. Please continue to monitor our website for updates, as it will be our primary source of public information.

Estimated disbursement is expected by the end of October 2025.

 

Processors:
Due to the low number of qualifying processors (both active processors and Processor quota shareholders) PSMFC was able to review and process those claims with minimal effort. Relief disbursement is expected to occur in the coming weeks.
