The Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) is working collaboratively with National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to distribute funds appropriated by Congress for various fishery disasters.  NMFS has requested the Commission administer the fishery disaster programs.

Relief checks for Southeast Alaska crew members were mailed Friday, January 24th.

This includes seine, gill net and troll sectors.

Please wait to contact us until at least Monday, February 17th, 2025 regarding the status of your check. This will allow sufficient time for the USPS to deliver your check or for it to be returned to sender if undeliverable.

2021-22 and 2022-23 Bristol Bay Red King Crab (BBR) and Bering Sea Snow Crab (BSS) Relief

Applications for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 Bristol Bay Red King Crab and Bering Sea Snow Crab Quota Share Holders and Vessel Owners were sent out on Friday, January 24, 2025. Applicants will have until Friday, April 25, 2025, to submit their applications.

 

If you believe you qualify but have not received an application, please reach out to us starting no earlier than Monday, February 17, 2025. This allows enough time for the United States Postal Service to deliver your application or for returned mail to be returned to our office.

 

Vessel owners are responsible for providing a complete record of all captains and crew members. This information will be used to generate and mail applications for eligible captains and crew.

 

Applications for captains and crew will be available later this spring.

2018 and 2020 Upper Cook Inlet Salmon Disaster Relief

Applications for the 2018 and 2020 Upper Cook Inlet Salmon Disasters are now available. 

Permit Holders have until January 31st, 2025 to apply. 

Processors have until February 11th, 2025 to apply. 

Crew Members have until February 28th, 2025 to apply.

2019-20 Bering Sea Tanner Crab Relief Disbursement

Captain and crew relief disbursements were made on Friday, January 10th, 2025.

A total of 145 individuals across 32 qualifying vessels will receive relief.

  • Lowest payment: $1,505.22
  • Largest payment: $87,003.16
  • Median payment: $7,976.12
  • Average payment: $10,656.92

Please note, individual payments were calculated based on a 70/30 split of the vessel-based funds: 70% to vessel owners and 30% to captains and crew. Vessel-based funds were calculated based on the total poundage of Tanner crab landed between the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

Each qualifying captain received 2-shares per season (2017-18 and 2018-19), while crew members received 1-share per season. After receiving all qualifying applications, the total shares for each vessel were summed. Payments were then calculated by dividing each individual’s shares by the total shares for the vessel.

2018 and 2020 Copper River and Prince William Sound Salmon Disasters

Applications are now available for the 2018 Copper River Chinook and Sockeye salmon and the 2020 Copper River and Prince William Sound Chinook, Sockeye, and Chum salmon disasters.
