2020-21 Statewide Salmon

- Due to the low return rates of crew member applications, ADF&G provided an alternative methodology for calculating payments to Norton Sound and Yukon-Kuskokwim crew members. Without this adjustment, crew would have receive payments significantly higher than permit holders, which is not in line with typical crew contracts or settlements. Therefore, an amended spend plan was submitted to NOAA Fisheries on 1/31/2025. As of this update, it is still being reviewed by federal agencies. The Commission is uncertain when approval will occur which is needed before relief payments Norton Sound and Yukon-Kuskokwim crew can be issued and disbursed.
-
- This change will affect crew members who participated in the 2020 Norton Sound set gillnet fishery and the 2020-21 Yukon and Kuskokwim set gillnet fisheries.
- Relief for the 2020 Chignik seine crew will regrettably be delayed as ADF&G and PSMFC seek amendment approval to clarify an error in the approved spend plan regarding the harvester fund split between permit holders and crew members. This is the same spend plan amendment mentioned above for Norton Sound and Yukon-Kuskokwim crew. Once approved, relief payments will occur.
- Relief for 2020 Southeast Alaska crew members (including troll, seine, and gillnet) were mailed on Friday, January 24th, 2025. Please allow 3-weeks before contacting us, inquiring into the status of your individual check. This should provide sufficient time for the USPS to deliver your check or for undeliverable parcels to be returned to our office.
- Relief for Subsistence Households in the 2020-21 Yukon-Kuskokwim and 2020 Norton Sound regions is expected to be distributed during the second quarter of 2025. Approximately 3,500 applications were submitted, and over a quarter of them contained omissions, errors, or other issues that required Commission staff to request amendments. Due to the high volume of applications and the need for amendments, the process is taking longer than initially anticipated. Please continue to monitor your email as Commission staff reach out to applicants whose applications were flagged. We appreciate your patience.
